My Birthstory

My daughters birthday is around the corner. I have read many birth-stories during my pregnancy which boosted my confidence and gave me an insight to the complete delivery process. So while my daughter is near to completing her first year, I finally got the guts to publish this story on blog. I was very apprehensive if I should or I should not since it is quite personal but then this blog is my baby too and I want to document this journey. So here I am finally sharing my own birth-story.

Coming to last trimester, I really  got restless as the last month approached. Everyone I met said, now that it is last month baby is expected anytime hence I waited impatiently for any kind of labor sign. I completed my 39 weeks and in 40th week doctor asked me to come and get admitted for delivery since I was full time and there was no sign of baby making an entry anytime soon. Therefore, they had to give me artificial pains.

I got admitted to hospital on 4th Dec and my daughter was delivered on 5th Dec 10:02 a.m. I had a normal and painful delivery. I still can't forget the pain I went through and the pitch on which I was screaming. Pain was superficially high. My water broke on 4th night and only I know how I survived the complete night. The frequency and intensity of pain kept increasing hour after hour. On top of it the internal check up to check dilation was extremely painful too.

4th Dec around 9:00 p.m.
Before my water broke

The assistant doctor checked me around 6 am on 5th and said that I am only 4cm dilated which made me think if this is the pain at 4cm then what it would be at 10cm which was required dilation for normal delivery. So when around 8am main doctor arrived I told her if it is completely dilated then ok I am ready for normal else please go for cesarean since I could not bear pain more than this. So when main doctor checked me and to my surprise she told me I am 8cm ready and would deliver in another hour or so, after listening to which I was pretty much started cursing the assistant doc.

Smiling with pain

Tired and exhausted

Finally they gave me an injection which increased my pain and I was 10cm dilated after 30mins. They took me to delivery room at around 9:30 and after around 3 times of pushing, I welcomed my baby.

Anyways after all the struggle and pains when I was handed over my daughter I actually forgot everything. The happiness on face of my husband, parents, in laws and close ones was much more then the pain I went through.

I had delivery phobia like any other girl. The screams from the nearby labor room made me more nervous but I think God has created woman with a power to bear such pains. I always thought I would never be able to deliver normally but I think God himself gives strength to a "mommy" to go through this situation.

Trust God, have faith and everything will be fine.  Sharing with you some moments from Hospital. (No edits because these pictures are really special to me)

Pregnancy Photoshoot

I was very excited about my pregnancy. The fact that I will have a baby soon made me nervous and happy. I wanted my pregnancy to be all happy and smooth. Touch wood it was exactly the way I wanted it to be. I enjoyed pampering and lazed around like a boss.

I always wanted to have pregnancy photo-shoot to show my baby. Also, I find maternity photo shoots cute. So since my husband agreed for same we booked for one immediately before he could change his mind. Those cute little shoes and big bump accompanied by glowing face resulted in super cute pictures which will stay memorable forever. I will always cherish those moments through these pictures.

I have chosen my favorites, have a look below:

Let me know which one was your favorite ? Also, if you have done a maternity photo-shoot do link in comments below I love seeing cute pictures.

p.s. I think opting for a photoshoot was  a very nice decision to go for since while scrolling down for pictures for this post I just could not stop smiling.

5 Problems while Feeding a Newborn "Solved"

Throughout my 9 months I had delivery phobia. Yes !! seriously the way my friends or loved ones use to explain the pain they went through, it always gave me goosebumps. But for me, I think feeding was more difficult from delivery. No, seriously feeding made me emotionally drained.
Delivery pain I had to go through for one day or to the maximum 2 days but feeding pain, I had to go through it after every hour for minimum 2 months. then it felt like it is a never ending pain. Being sleep deprived served as cherry on top.

Now if you are wondering what pain I am talking about or How can feeding be painful ! Oh dear you don't know the truth then. Scroll down to read my experience and knowledge I gained about the basics on feeding.

1.How to know if baby is getting enough milk:

I was feeding my child for first two days without the realizing that she is getting "nothing". Hence, she was left always hungry. In fact, I used to feed her for one hour to see she is as empty stomach as before. Her weight loss confirmed it. That was a complete emotional roller coaster for me to not being able to feed my child (mom guilt and mood swings). I thought I failed as a mother. I felt guilty. But then I kept trying and consulted doctors. Slowly and steadily I got hold of it which took me around 2 weeks.

My advice: Baby will get hungry after every hour which is very natural and that does not mean you are not feeding. If she wets her nappy at least 5 to 6 times and her weight is steadily increasing be it in grams, then she is having enough milk. But if you see a consistent weight loss, then do consult your doctor. Also, feeding requires time. You as well as your little one are new to this and it does not come naturally to everyone. At least it did not come naturally to me, I had to work hard and stay consistent.

2. Formula Milk:

Now if you are wondering what I gave her for first 2 weeks, I gave her formula milk on 5th day. I alternated formula with feed so that she is not hungry as well as my milk supply is regulated. According to me feeding is extremely important for a child and one has to very consistent and determined if one wants to feed her child well but just in case you are not able please do not punish yourself. Please do not judge anyone for not able to feed her child. She is trying her best, and let her do what she thinks is best for her child and herself.

3. How to increase milk supply:

I completely trusted my gynaecologist and have followed her religiously throughout my pregnancy and even after that. She advised, the more I feed my child more milk will be produced, which is absolutely true (personal painful experience) The more I fed her, I got more used to pain and more milk supply. Slowly and steadily, pain flew and now I love feeding her. Its our special bonding time.

Also, there are few foods which help in increasing milk supply like cracked wheat(daliya), white cumin powder, cumin seeds and makhane.

4. Sore and cracked nipples:

Since I could not feed for 2 weeks whereas my daughter was continuously trying for milk made my nipples sore and very painful. It started bleeding. I was advised to do wet warm compresses and apply neosprin when I am not feeding. Also, even when I was recovered I had to apply

My advice : Start applying nipcare during pregnancy to prevent dry and sore nipples later.

5. Pumping Milk :

When I was getting blood in milk, I made sure to pump milk to see she is not drinking infectious milk and also pumping was less painful. For that I bought Chicco manual Pump. It used to take 15 minutes and one can even store that milk in fridge for 4 hours. To use that milk, do not microwave or directly heat it, instead boil water in a container and keep bottle in it i.e. thaw the milk.

After around one complete month, I could easily feed her and she did not have to take formula at all. That was the time I felt proud of myself to pass that hurdle.

Advice:
If you are introducing bottle to her, make sure you sterilize them well. Traditional method of boiling bottles in container is the best method till date. Also use glass bottles instead of plastic ones, they are less prone to causing infection.

I hope this post helps future mom to be's and they know how to handle a problem if any arises.
If you have any question. feel free to leave in comments. I would try my best to answer what ever I can through my personal experience.

Pregnancy Series: Third Trimester

I was quite restless in my third semester, since my weight increased exponentially in this trimester. Carrying my body weight seemed quite a task. Also, due to lot of movement sound sleep was kinda impossible.

Symptoms:
1. Gained almost 10kgs in this trimester.
2. Intensive pain in legs and heartburn.
3. Vomiting was quite occasional.
4. Lots and lots of baby movement.
5. Had a downward pressure in 8th month as if baby is going to come out right now.
6. I had acne all over my forehead which miraculously faded away after my delivery.
7. My face bloated to twice the size. Though my hands and feet were quite ok.
8. I had glow in my first trimester but after that I looked pathetic. Since they say baby girl steals their mom's beauty and mine certainly did, haha !

Doctor's Advice:
1. Eat healthy.
2. Regularly take calcium and iron.
3. Keep a check on baby's movement.
4. In 8th month, since I had downward pressure doctor advised me to not to stand for a long time.
Hence work for 15 minutes and rest.

Cravings:
1. Hungry at sharp 3 in midnight. So I kept something handy for midnight hunger pangs. Like a banana or few almonds.
2. Sweets made a comeback but still salted stuff was my favorite.
3. I literally craved for Mc. Donald's french fries.
4. Had every fruit and vegetable with extra salt. Sometimes I would just had a pinch of salt alone.
5. I craved for fruits and coconut water.

Having a high Blood pressure is not good for pregnancy. Hence make sure if you are craving for salt like me, keep a check on it. I had a B.P. machine at home hence kept a regular check. Also, at times I would suppress my salt craving since excess salt is bad for health and leads to bloating.

For me stretch marks became quite prominent in this trimester.
Not sure since I could not try it but I have heard applying bio oil from 4th month regularly decreases the stretch marks to quite an extent. Also, make sure not to scratch the itching area. Just rub a soft cloth over it.

Coming over to outfit. Below is the suit I wore in my last trimester for a religious occasion.

Pregnancy Series: Second Trimester

As mentioned in my previous post, I thoroughly enjoyed my second trimester. My husband and brother in law satisfied all my cravings, provided what I wanted was available and timings were apt. Since sometimes I wished to have french fries at 2 a.m. For such craving we use to find an apt alternative available at home and very next day I use to indulge in whatever I like. Also, I started going for walks after dinner during this time.

I gained almost 5 kgs back which I lost in my previous trimester. Hence after second trimester my weight was from where I started. By the way, I gained the maximum in my last trimester. Haha !!

Symptoms:
1. Did not like sweets at all instead I craved for salty food.
2. After vomiting throughout my pregnancy I wanted to take a sip of cold drink.
3. Not much fatigue and laziness. Better than first three months.
4. I still use to vomit at-least once a day. Early morning vomiting was fix.
5. Instead of sad I use to  be super duper happy without any reason. Pregnancy hormones, I tell you !

Doctors Advice:
1. To eat as per my hearts content. Eating for two was illogical. Just make sure to eat a little after every two hours.
2. Have atta maggie instead of maida. Doctor also allowed me to have cold drink in limited amount. Just take care you do not consume caffeine in access.
3. Have two glasses of milk a day. It could be cold or hot. It could even be lassi or any milkshake or even curd or Paneer.
4. Had heart burns at night. Sometimes I could not sleep because of that. For that I need to take care of my diet. Reduce the amount of maida and breads. Also, having dinner two hours before bed time helped.
5. Start sleeping mostly on left side so that nutrients could reach my baby.
6. Take sufficient amount of rest in morning. Specially lay down after meals for at-least half hour on left side.

Cravings:
1. Craved for french fries every day.
2. Cold drink and maggie with lots of vegetables. There is a cafe Cake Square near my house, which made onion chilly maggie and I wanted to have it every single day.
3. Few things specially made by my mom.

High Point:
I felt my first movement in my 5th month. I was the best experience of my life. Something moving inside your body is so exciting and amusing.

This printed maxi dress is one of the outfits I wore in my second trimester during my nephew's birthday.

Pregnancy Series: First Trimester

My baby is five months old, so please do not think I am pregnant now. It is just that I was not able to blog those days but I still want to document my pregnancy journey, so that someday my girl could read what all she had done to me.Also, I want to share my experience with you guys.

For me first and last semester were a little tough whereas the second one was quite awesome.
In my husbands words I thoroughly enjoyed my pregnancy except the last month since I got quite restless then.
Until I experienced it myself, I could never really understand the concept of cravings since I thought one could always control there cravings. But seriously pregnancy causes you to have some weird cravings and you just have to satisfy them else its the only thing that your mind will be busy with till you put them in your mouth. There are times when you love something and then you just don't want to touch it the very next moment. It really happens !!

Symptoms:
1. I hated sweets. I felt like vomiting even on sight or smell of sweets.
2. Did not feel like eating anything. Mostly, I had fruits.
3. Felt sleepy all the time.
4. Morning sickness, fatigue and laziness.
5. I use to vomit at-least thrice a day. One as soon as I wake up was fix.
6. Last but not the least, Mood swings. I cried on anything to everything or sometimes even on nothing and was happy without any reason the very next moment. Mostly, I felt sad and depressed, thinking of all the changes that were about to come and how I would handle them.

Doctors Advice:
1. Eat whatever I feel like and how much ever I like. Just make sure to eat every 2 hours, it could be even two biscuits.
2. Avoid sugar-free stuff and ajinomotto
3. Mood swings are very common during first trimester.
(Hence, I got the certificate to shout at anyone any time I want to, perks of being pregnant)
4. Drink lots of water.
5. Have folic acid regularly.
6. Weight loss does not matter until and unless the baby is healthy.

Cravings:
1. I had a weird craving of having water from pink sipper. Ya, I actually got one for my satisfaction.
2. Apart from that I did not crave for anything since I did not feel like eating at all.

High Point:
My first scan and hearing the heart beat for the very first time. the feeling that something is growing inside you is amazing.

I think apart from vomiting there was not much I could feel in my first trimester. I did not gain any weight instead lost 5 kgs due to vomiting and eating less.I took all my medicines regularly and on time. This time was harder for my husband since he had to tolerate my mood swings. So go ask him.

Below is one of the outfits I wore during my first trimester during an outing. Oh! by the way, yes, going out of station is fine till the time your health is ok just take take of jerks and what you eat. Lastly, always consult your doctor for everything.

Pregnancy Series: Planning and Announcement

I am not giving any excuses but because of the major news I have shared blogging has taken a back seat in my life. Seriously, handling a baby is no joke. I will share complete journey with you in my coming posts. Lets start with my initial reaction and how I just could not digest it.

First and fore-most it was a total planned and wanted pregnancy, so no drama about how and what happened. I skipped my chums and bought two tests kits which gave positive results. I still cannot forget (04-04-2014) that night, the expression on mine and husband's face, it was happiness accompanied with nervousness and excitement. Aah-meh-zinng time it was, seriously. A moment like this can never be described in words if you know what I mean.

Anyways, we got confirmed test from laboratory and followed by a visit to gynecologist. Throughout the pregnancy I got free advises and suggestions, but what I did was to confirm those with doctor and follow only those which my gyno agreed with or which my 6th sense allowed me to follow. So, patiently listen everyone but trust your doctor and instincts that is it.

My " free-suggestions" (follow only if you like to else move on to outfit):

1. If you have a planned pregnancy, make sure you consume folic acid from the time you start planning, since it is required in initial stages of development of the baby and till the time you know you are pregnant time is half passed. So make sure you consume adequate amount of  Folic acid after consulting a doctor.

2. Take good care of what goes in your mouth. Yes, even when you start planning. Avoid alcohol, smoking and eat healthy.

3. Prepare your mind that your life will completely change and so will your body. It is a tedious and life changing process and does not end with delivery in fact, responsibility doubles after the baby arrives. So get ready for the roller coaster ride ahead.

In end, go with the flow and enjoy the time, it is not going to come back. Seize every precious moment. Now moving on to the outfit, this is what I wore to one of my pre-pregnancy days party time:
